Hairstyles & Hair Clips for Curly Hair

The Best Ways to Style Curly Hair

Whether it’s barrettes or claw clips, adding beautiful hair accessories to curly hair and elevating your look doesn’t have to be difficult. At Hariette’s Bun-Bun, we make it easy to find inspiration for new hairstyles and shop for all the accessories you need to make these looks happen. Check out some of our favorite hairstyles and hair clips for curly hair here, and try them out for yourself today!

1. High Hair with a Claw Clip

Claw clips are some of the most versatile hair clips for curly hair to use because they come in tons of different styles and shapes that allow you to customize them to your needs. If you have a small or medium-sized claw clip, try a half-up/half-down style by gathering a triangle of hair from the top third of your head and pulling it back evenly. Use the claw clip to secure the gathered hair at the back of your head. If you’re having any trouble with the strength of the clip, pull back a little less hair and try again.

2. Side Twists with Snap Clips

curly hair side braids

If you’re heading out for a night on the town and you’re looking for something more dramatic, try a twisted style that’s designed to add shape and sophistication to your face. To bring this hairstyle to life, part your hair asymmetrically and move the bulk of your hair off to the side. Section the remaining hair into three parts and twist each part from the hairline halfway to the back of your scalp. Secure each twist with a snap hair clip for curly hair to secure it in place.

You can try another spin on this design by braiding each section of hair along your scalp and clipping it into place. You can even try this style with one larger braid or twist!

3. Low Pony with Large Barrette

The best way to style curly hair for this style is with a center part where you lightly twist each half of your hair inwards toward the back of your head. Gather both sections and use a large barrette hair clip for curly hair to hold the twists and ponytail in place. We love using clips with pearl-style accents or rhinestone gems to highlight your look.

If you’re not sure the large barrette can handle all your hair, you can always tie it back with a ponytail and attach the barrette right over it to complete the look.

4. High Bun with a Comb

high bun curly hair

If you’ve got to keep your hair out of your face, one of the best ways to style curly hair is a slicked-back bun at the top of your head. You can use regular hair pins to keep the bun in place and simply stick a decorative hair comb into the bun at an angle to show off the design of the comb.

This style is a really good way to keep a simpler style from feeling bland. Your choice of comb hair clip for curly hair will add a ton of personality to your look! Keep it professional with a simple gold flower, or amp up the energy with bright colors or sparkling rhinestones.

5. Side Braid with Duck Clips

Duck hair clips for curly hair are a slightly larger version of closed hairpins that can secure larger chunks of hair without overwhelming your hairstyle. With the larger clips from Hariette’s Bun-Buns, you can accent the entire length of your side braid with flowers, butterflies, or leaves that stay in place a little more securely than your regular hairpin.

6. Space Buns with Accent Snap Clips

space buns for girls with textured hair

Our last recommended look for curly hairstyles is the space bun look with snap clip accents. You can keep it subtle with simple clips at the top of each bun, but you can also go all out with this style! Place snap clips with different colors and accents all around the buns to create a super unique pattern that truly stands out.

Hairstyles & Hair Clips for Fine Hair

The Best Hairstyles for Fine Hair

Finding the right hairstyles and accessories can be tough, especially if you have super-fine hair that slips through every clip and snap. Whether you want to create volume with clips that highlight your layered style or accent your go-to hairstyles with a sparkling accessory, Hariette’s Bun-Bun can help! If you’re ready to try something new, check out these best hairstyles for fine hair — along with the top hair clips for fine hair!

1. Clipped Back Side Part

side part with hair clips

Sometimes, the easiest style to create is your natural side part that is brushed and fluffed to the perfect volume. If you want to hold your bangs out of your face or create an asymmetrical look with more volume on one side or the other, snap clips are your best friends!

For this look, simply pull back the strands you want clipped and gather them with the rest of your hair. You want to run the clip as close as possible to your scalp for a secure hold before snapping it down into place. As someone with thinner strands, the ideal hair clips for fine hair may be a little smaller than you expect. Choose smaller snap clips with a thicker bottom portion to get a better hold.

2. Low Bun with a Duck Clip

sleek low bun with hair clips

If you love the messy bun look, but you haven’t managed to master this style with hairpins, a large duck clip could be the solution. Try out this hairstyle with hair clips for fine hair when you pull back your hair as you normally do (parted or slick-back) and twist it around into a bun. Press the messy bun against the back of your head and slide the bottom half of a duck clip as close as possible to your scalp, with the top portion over the rest of the bun.

We recommend sliding the duck clip into place from top to bottom, but if it feels too long and it’s poking you in the back of the neck, you can clip it in place diagonally. The most important portion of hair that you need to secure with this style is the tail end of your bun. You also want to make sure you catch the bun along with the slicked-back portion of your hair so it all holds together.

3. French Twist with a Claw Clip

claw clip for fine hair french twist

The claw clip French twist is one of the best hairstyles for fine hair because it’s super quick and easy to put together. It also ensures you look sophisticated, even if a few wisps escape the clip. Medium and large-sized claw clips are great for gathering all your hair in place and tightly woven teeth in the claw are essential in hair clips for fine hair!

Twist your hair into the French style vertically along your head. Brush one side of the open claw clip against the side of your head to catch your slicked-back hair until it bumps up against the twist. Now, without moving this first touch point, reach as far as possible to the other side of the twist and allow the teeth on the other side to gather up the rest of your hair. Squeeze the clip completely closed around the twist to ensure it’s as tight as possible.

4. Half Up with a Barrette

Because you have finer hair, you can use some of the most beautiful girl’s barrettes to create hairstyles that others can’t. Because you have finer hair, there is less volume preventing hair clips for fine hair from closing and securing your hair in place.

For this half-up style, pull the strands at the front of your hairline back to the middle of your scalp and slide the bottom of a barrette clip under these strands without gathering up any of the rest of your hair. Try and get the clip as centered as possible before snapping it closed. You may need to experiment with how much hair to pull back to get the best hairstyle for fine hair so that it fits securely in the barrette.

5. Braided Butterfly Clips

The last of our hair clips for fine hair is the butterfly hair clip! You can use these as accents for nearly any style, but we love dispersing them throughout the curves of your braid to make it look like a small host of butterflies is fluttering through your hair. The braid won’t let these clips slip out of your hair, either!

Back-to-School Hair Clip Hacks: Easy Hairstyles for School Girls on the Go

Whether it’s the first day back at school, picture day, or just another day where you want to look as good as possible, finding unique and fun girl’s hairstyles for school can be a challenge. But at Hariette’s Bun-Bun, we have all the answers! You might even find some new go-to school hair accessories that are chic and versatile enough for all hair types and styles!

If you want more hairstyles for school that are easy to put together for yourself or others, check out this list of simple hair clip hacks that will elevate any back-to-school look.

1. Low Bun With A Comb

If you’re looking for a great girl’s hairstyle for school that works for all hair types, consider the low bun. Gather the hair in a ponytail in the back and twist the bunch around the hair tie. Pin the hair in place and add a decorative hair comb, like our cute butterfly cluster, for a little something extra!

There are so many variations on the low bun that we promise it will work for anyone. You can do this style with slick back or messy hair, and parted down the center or off to the side. You can even pull the bun to the side so it sits right under the ear! If you really want to amp up this style, braid the hair, and then wrap it into a bun for a more intricate hairstyle for school.

2. High Bun Claw Clips

high bun clipped in place with a claw clip

When someone's hair is thinner or finer, this is the perfect, quick girl’s hairstyle for school that will stay in all day long! You can gather the hair together at the top of the head and twist it around until it coils into a bun. Then, clip the bun in place with a claw clip, like one of our bejeweled botanicals.

There are some variations on this style for girls with thicker or textured hair that still allow them to use unique school hair accessories. One way to keep your hair extra secure without relying on just one clip is to tie your hair in a ponytail and pin the bun into place before adding the claw clip as an accessory.

3. Side Clip Accent

One of the simplest ways to create the best hairstyles for picture day is with an accent barrette. You don’t have to worry about making sure the clip keeps the hair secure. Instead, focus on creating whatever your favorite girl’s hairstyle is for school and simply add a barrette as an accent piece after it’s all done! We recommend using this style when the hair is parted and placing the pin about halfway between the part and the ear.

The most important part of this style is that you should consider a barrette with pearl-style or rhinestone jewels that will stand out among any type of hair.

4. Pinned Space Buns

space buns with textured hair and clip

We absolutely love this style for anyone who has short hair — even if it’s highly textured! Gather your hair in two ponytails on either side of your head. If you have fine, straight hair, the tails will pop out a little for an eclectic vibe. With textured hair, you’ll get something like buns without having to put in any extra effort to pin this hairstyle in place.

For the finishing touch, add a flower or animal hair clip at the base of the bun. You can have a single clip for an asymmetrical style or one clip under each bun. You might even want two different animals for your clips to show off an entire jungle in your hair!

5. Claw Clip Accent

Whether you’re trying a funky new look or you want a basic updo, a claw clip can handle any school hairstyle for girls. Throw a claw clip on to keep a French twist in place, or use it to gather up a half-updo hairstyle that keeps your hair completely out of your face.

With the beautiful hair clips from Hariette’s Bun-Bun, you can also always count on a super cute look with a playful touch. Ready to elevate any hairstyle for school? Hariette’s Bun-Bun is here to help. Shop our selection to find school hair accessories for every texture, length, and thickness of hair!
